Racing Incident Report
DANDY BUNNY was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between EVEREST which shifted in slightly after beginning awkwardly and D'OR WIN which became badly unbalanced and shifted out after being bumped by DESERT HERO which was taken out by KING OF THE TURF. In the early stages, DESERT HERO proved difficult to settle and at the 1300 Metres shifted out from behind EVEREST. This caused some inconvenience to BARFOLD HERO. In turn inconvenience was caused to BLACK KNIGHT which was racing behind BARFOLD HERO. Near the 1200 Metres, TELECOM BABE was carried wider by BRAVISSIMO. For a short distance after straightening, ELITE WIN was held up when unable to improve when close to the heels of COUNTRY DRAGON which commenced to give ground. S Dye (KING OF THE TURF) was unable to offer any explanation for the horse's poor performance. He said KING OF THE TURF travelled comfortably in the run and in the early part of the Straight he shifted to a position behind BLACK KNIGHT and attempted to follow that horse through the field, however, KING OF THE TURF did not quicken as anticipated and particularly over the final 50 Metres shortened stride noticeably. He said after the race KING OF THE TURF appeared normal in its action. KING OF THE TURF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of KING OF THE TURF after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, KING OF THE TURF will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DESERT HERO was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, DESERT HERO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination was carried out. This showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, DESERT HERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BLACK KNIGHT and EVEREST were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 20 November 2003)
KING OF THE TURF, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. KING OF THE TURF was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be mildly lame in the right hind leg. As previously advised, KING OF THE TURF will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
