Racing Incident Report
KINDRED SPIRITS was slow to begin. DEEP PURPLE began awkwardly and shortly afterwards blundered and almost fell after striking the heels of HIGH SPIRITS which shifted out after making contact with PERPETUAL PLEASURE. At the same time, LIGHT FOOT was carried in by CHATER LANE which had its head on the side and shifted ground. Making the first turn, LIGHT FOOT was bumped by PERPETUAL PLEASURE which shifted out away from CUPID. Near the 1400 Metres, PERPETUAL PLEASURE and DEEP PURPLE bumped. Near the 600 Metres, CLAWS OF THUNDER, which was inclined to be laying in, was steadied away from the heels of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE which was giving ground. Making the Home Turn, CUPID hung out. Over the concluding stages, SUNNY RIVIERA was unable to obtain clear running behind CHATER LANE and inside KINDRED SPIRITS, because of this was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Just prior to the winning post, PERPETUAL PLEASURE was steadied away from the heels of DEEP PURPLE which shifted out. G Schofield (LIGHT FOOT) said he had ridden the horse in its work leading into today's race and in his opinion this work was good. He said LIGHT FOOT began only fairly and then received some crowding which resulted in him travelling three wide in the run. He said travelling along the Back Straight LIGHT FOOT was continually hampered when racing tight between PERPETUAL PLEASURE and inside the heels of RESOURCEFUL PRINCE, then in the Straight the horse did not close the race off. He said in his opinion LIGHT FOOT was not at all comfortable or balanced when racing in restricted room and this attributed to the horse's performance. LIGHT FOOT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of LIGHT FOOT after the race did not show any significant findings. CHATER LANE and HIGH SPIRITS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 17 November 2003)
LIGHT FOOT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LIGHT FOOT was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C S Shum yesterday. He said at this time the horse was found to have a small wound and swelling of the right hind fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, LIGHT FOOT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
