Racing Incident Report

AMBITION and AMBITIOUS LEADER were slow to begin. COMPANION began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. On jumping, WELL BEST got its head up and shifted out. For some distance near the 900 Metres, MASCOT (Apprentice P H Lo), which after being a little slow to begin was ridden along hard to go forward, was awkwardly placed tight inside COMME D'HABITUDE and close to the heels of COMPANION which steadied back from the heels of GOLDEN PROMISE which itself steadied after crossing to the fence to lead. Near the 800 Metres, MASCOT shifted out from behind COMPANION. This caused COMME D'HABITUDE to be carried wider, resulting in SMILING FOREST striking that horse's hind leg and blundering. Apprentice P H Lo was told in similar circumstances he should stop riding his mount along sooner than he did on this occasion. Also near the 800 Metres, AMBITION was steadied when crowded for room between TURBOJET and WINNING BENNY. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WELL BEST hung out. On straightening, MASCOT was steadied and shifted in when disappointed for running between COMME D'HABITUDE and EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT which shifted out slightly. EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse returned lame in the right hind leg. Before racing again, EASTKOWLOON SPIRIT will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SMILING FOREST, SALUT BEAUTE and AMBITION were sent for sampling.
