Racing Incident Report
FAMOUS BRAND was withdrawn on 12.9.03 on veterinary grounds (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter LAZY BUDDIES (W Smith). Before being allowed to race again, FAMOUS BRAND will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GOOD MOOD was slow to begin and then in the early stages hung in. For some distance making the turn at the 700 Metres, VITAL PATROL got its head up and became unbalanced, then in the Straight raced greenly and proved difficult to ride. Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, PROFIT DAY hung out. After the 600 Metres, SHARE THE FUN hung out. Shortly after straightening, GOOD MOOD was shifted out away from the heels of BELONG TO US. O REI was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, O REI was examined by the Veterinary Officer. An endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of blood in the horse's trachea as well as showing O REI to be a roarer. Before being allowed to race again, O REI will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. PROFIT DAY, GOOD MOOD and SHARE THE FUN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported GOOD MOOD to be suffering from heat stress. On each occasion GOOD MOOD has now raced, three starts, the horse has been reported to be suffering from heat stress following its race. Mr D Cruz, trainer of GOOD MOOD, undertook not to race the horse again until the weather had cooled down and he would not enter the horse until he had consulted his stable Veterinary Surgeon. The Stewards advised Mr Cruz before racing again, GOOD MOOD will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. Mr Cruz was further advised should GOOD MOOD again be distressed following a race, consideration will be given to recommending to the Stewards of the Jockey Club that the horse be compulsorily retired.
