Racing Incident Report
HOWSON and CHIU CHOW HERO were slow to begin. DOLPHIN STAR began awkwardly and hit the outside gate of its stall. From a wide barrier, for the major part of the race LUCKY FRIENDS raced wide and without cover. In the early stages, CHIU CHOW HERO proved difficult to settle. On straightening, TIME OF RED WINE shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of UNIVERSAL GLORY, then for a considerable distance was held up for running on the inside of UNIVERSAL GLORY and behind SUPER BEST. After the 400 Metres, HOWSON was carried wider by DOLPHIN STAR which shifted to the outside of TORI TOP to find clear running. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in while they considered whether MONETARY STAR had had an unfair start and as such should be declared a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. After viewing all the available films and considering the evidence submitted by Apprentice M W Leung, the rider of MONETARY STAR, the Stewards believed this was not an appropriate occasion on which they should exercise their powers under Rule 12(19). It was established MONETARY STAR which had been fractious in the gates after being loaded was standing correctly when the start was effected and then immediately reared up and sat down behind, resulting in Apprentice M W Leung being dislodged. After the race, Apprentice M W Leung was examined by the Club's medical officer who said he was fit to continue riding. Before being permitted to race again, MONETARY STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. CHIU CHOW HERO, KASHMAC and SUPER BEST were sent for sampling.
