Racing Incident Report

MONEY EXPRESS and WATCHMAN were slow to begin. TOUCH DOWN began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. On jumping, JOINT PEACE and MR PRESIDENT bumped. From a wide gate, JOINT PEACE travelled wide and without cover throughout. After the 1200 Metres, MONEY EXPRESS was steadied away from the heels of FORM FIT which itself steadied to avoid GRANVILLE ISLAND which crossed into the lead. Also after the 1200 Metres, UTMOST EASY was checked when crowded for room between CAPITAL GAIN and NEVER SAY NEVER which was carried out by ELEGANCE which shifted ground when proving difficult to settle. At the 250 Metres, GRANVILLE ISLAND, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between SOUTHERN LIGHT which shifted in and FORM FIT which shifted to the outside of IN THE MONEY to obtain clear running and go forward. No action was taken. M Walker (ELEGANCE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse which tonight was having its first start for three months in a forward position if possible, but he was not to bustle the horse to be there. He said ELEGANCE began well, he then rode along for a short distance, however, horses drawn towards the outside went forward and crossed him. He said at the 1200 Metres when FORM FIT crossed his running, ELEGANCE began to over-race and he steadied away from the heels of that runner. He said because he steadied at this stage, this allowed MAGNIFICENT to shift in to a position in front of him, he again had to steady his mount and consequently got much further back than was intended. FORM FIT and IN THE MONEY were sent for sampling.
