Racing Incident Report
BRILLIANT EXPRESS was slow to begin. KEY TO SUCCESS began awkwardly. In the early stages, HK ISLAND VICTORY hung in. Near the 1000 Metres, THE GRAND ROOF shifted in and was steadied away from the heels of SIGHT CHAMPION. At the 600 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS, which had been racing wide and without cover, was bumped by SIGHT CHAMPION which shifted out. At the 400 Metres, THE GRAND ROOF was steadied away from the heels of SIGHT CHAMPION which was giving ground. Prior to straightening, SMILING FOREST was crowded for room inside SUPREME STAR which was racing tight inside SIGHT CHAMPION which continued to give ground. In the Straight, CHAMP DE UNION shifted out and proved difficult to ride. When questioned, G Mossé (SIGHT CHAMPION) said he had ridden the horse in track work during the week and in his opinion this work had been good. He said tonight from an awkward gate he had been instructed to ride the horse in a forward position if possible. He said when the gates opened, SIGHT CHAMPION and SUPREME STAR bumped, he then rode along in an endeavour to carry out his instructions, was never able to obtain cover and consequently raced wide throughout. He said SIGHT CHAMPION had to be ridden along to maintain his position passing the 600 Metres and commenced to give ground shortly afterwards. He said on straightening SIGHT CHAMPION made an abnormal breathing noise, dropped out quickly and after the race appeared to be blowing hard. SIGHT CHAMPION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SIGHT CHAMPION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise, otherwise there were no significant findings. The performance of SIGHT CHAMPION was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SIGHT CHAMPION will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. JOLLY GAINS and SONGS OF THE SUN were sent for sampling.
