Racing Incident Report

DEEP PURPLE was slow to begin. On jumping, ENORMOUS WAY and RICARDO were crowded for room between TURBOJET which shifted out and OPTIC FRIENDLY which shifted in. K H Ting (OPTIC FRIENDLY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 2200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ENORMOUS WAY, causing that horse to be carried in and caused crowding on its inside to RICARDO which as a result shifted in across the rightful running of MONZA KING which was checked. K H Ting was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 29 May 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin race meeting next Sunday 18 May 2003. Making the turn at the 2000 Metres, DEEP PURPLE hung out. At the 700 Metres, CUPID was carried wider by OPTIC FRIENDLY which shifted to the outside of TURBOJET to improve. Near the 600 Metres, DEEP PURPLE was steadied when disappointed for running between ENORMOUS WAY and RICARDO which shifted in slightly. For some distance after the 500 Metres, DEEP PURPLE was tight inside RICARDO which had its head on the side and was laying in away from the hindquarters of OPTIC FRIENDLY. S Dye (DEEP PURPLE) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in a more forward position tonight, after being slow to begin, in an attempt to carry out his instructions, he rode his mount along in the early stages, however, he was not able to obtain a forward position. He said the tempo of tonight's race made it difficult for horses racing back in the field to make ground in the run home. He added DEEP PURPLE in his opinion is better suited with a softer track than that it raced on tonight. The explanations of S Dye were accepted. DEEP PURPLE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, DEEP PURPLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. THE PIONEER and EXPLOSIVE POWER were sent for sampling.
