Racing Incident Report
DOLBRIDGE was slow to begin. QUICK NEWS was a little slow to begin. From the outside gate, GLOBAL FORTUNE was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position closer to the rail. From an awkward gate, TRIUMPHANT GLORY raced in a forward position, but was obliged to race four wide and without cover throughout. Making the turn after the 800 Metres, PROFIT DAY hung out. Shortly after straightening, GALLANT HORSE was crowded for room and bumped the running rail when improving into a tight run inside WINNING LAURELS which was giving ground. For some distance after the 200 Metres, TRIUMPHANT GLORY raced tight outside HANDBAG DRAGON which was laying out. B Prebble (GALLANT HORSE) said because the horse had previously shown a tendency to over-race and not finish its races off when racing without cover, he had been instructed by the trainer today to ensure that when the gates opened, he immediately took the horse back to a rearward position to find cover. D Whyte (WINNING LAURELS) said during the horse's preliminary it was difficult and propped on a number of occasions. He said after arriving at the Start he requested the horse be examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. This was carried out and after the necessary consultations it was decided the horse was suitable to race. He said WINNING LAURELS began fairly and travelled well until entering the Home Straight where it immediately commenced to give ground. He said after the race the horse appeared sound it its action as it had done when he had ridden it on the Riverside Gallop last Thursday morning. WINNING LAURELS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, WINNING LAURELS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. The performance of WINNING LAURELS was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, WINNING LAURELS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MIRACLES was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of MIRACLES after the race did not show any significant findings. GLOBAL FORTUNE and SIR OCTAVIUS were sent for sampling.
