Racing Incident Report
CHERISHED was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between MASTER MARAUDER and GOLDEN FARM which on jumping got its head up and shifted out abruptly. DANDY BUNNY was slow to begin. In the early stages, SMILING FOREST proved difficult to settle. At the 800 Metres, NORTHERN FLYER got its head on the side, shifted in and bumped KNIGHT TEMPLAR. Near the 700 Metres, ROUND THE WORLD was hampered and carried wider by CHERISHED (R Fradd) which was ridden along in an endeavour to shift to the outside of FAST RUNNER to improve. For some distance after this, CHERISHED and ROUND THE WORLD race tight. R Fradd was severely reprimanded and told in slightly different set of circumstances he could find himself in breach of a serious Rule. M Walker (ROUND THE WORLD) explained making the Home Turn he got his right hand away from the horse's neck in an endeavour to assist it to hold its line whilst CHERISHED was shifting out on its inside. The Stewards could not be satisfied to the necessary degree that the right elbow of M Walker had come into contact with the body of R Fradd, however, M Walker was advised against raising his elbows. On straightening, MAIN ATTRACTION was bumped and carried wider by DANDY BUNNY which shifted to the outside of ROUND THE WORLD to improve. In the early part of the Straight, CONVERGENCE was held up and unable to obtain clear running inside KNIGHT TEMPLAR and behind GOLDEN FARM which was giving ground. After the 400 Metres, GLORIOUS LIGHT was steadied and shifted to the outside of SMILING FOREST to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, DANDY BUNNY shifted in away from MAIN ATTRACTION. Over the concluding stages, MAIN ATTRACTION shifted out and finished wide on the track. R Fradd (CHERISHED), a last start winner, said whilst the horse has previously won at Sha Tin, in his opinion it is better suited racing at Happy Valley where there is some cut in the ground. He said it felt to him that CHERISHED was reluctant to stretch out on today's surface and he attributed the horse's poor performance to this. Whilst the Stewards considered the riding of M Walker in the run to the line did not affect the horse's finishing position and accordingly a breach of Rule 100(2) did not occur, they did however advise M Walker he must ride all his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race whenever possible. F Coetzee (GLORIOUS LIGHT) said on straightening he was positioned behind but to the outside of NORTHERN FLYER and inside FIGHTING MASCOT, however, he was of the opinion FIGHTING MASCOT was commencing to shift in and therefore he elected to shift towards the outside of that horse rather than endeavouring to improve on the outside of NORTHERN FLYER as he was of the opinion he would run out of room. F Coetzee said when he commenced to move GLORIOUS LIGHT out, he made his mind up to shift to a position where he would be ensured clear running in the run to the line and this meant shifting further to the outside of SMILING FOREST. He said when he was shifting to the outside of SMILING FOREST, he was unaware there was running available for him between FIGHTING MASCOT and SMILING FOREST. After having viewed the official videos, F Coetzee acknowledged he should have endeavoured to improve into this second run rather than shifting to the outside of SMILING FOREST. The Stewards advised F Coetzee he would be expected to take runs as they present themselves especially at vital stages of a race. CHERISHED was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, CHERISHED was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. MAIN ATTRACTION and GLORIOUS LIGHT were sent for sampling.
