Racing Incident Report
SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin. Near the 800 Metres, SEASONS KNACK became unbalanced and bumped the running rail. For some distance after the 400 Metres, MARANELLO was held up and unable to obtain clear running when tight inside MY CHIEF and behind AMBITIOUS LEADER which was giving ground. For the major part of the Straight, EVER SUCCESS had difficulty obtaining clear running and after the 200 Metres when disappointed for a run between ROYAL ARMY and JOYFUL SPIRIT was shifted to the inside of ROYAL ARMY and then was again disappointed for a run between that horse and PLANET RULER which shifted out. Because of this, EVER SUCCESS was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. After the 200 Metres, SHANGHAI KING was steadied and shifted out after being disappointed for running between JOYFUL SPIRIT and BEST FOR ALL. Apprentice M W Leung (BEST FOR ALL) explained he had been instructed to lead if there was no pace, however, if the pace in the early stages was strong, he should endeavour to find cover. He said BEST FOR ALL began well, horses drawn to his inside immediately showed pace and for him to lead he would have had to ride BEST FOR ALL along, he therefore elected to allow the horse to settled in the hope of finding cover which he was able to do behind JOYFUL SPIRIT. Mr T W Leung (ROYAL ARMY) said he had instructed H K Yim to ride the horse in 2nd, 3rd or 4th position today because of its wide barrier and the fact it was only carrying 113 lbs. He said in its recent races the horse had been ridden further back, but it had not been his intention for the horse to race as far back on those occasions. Mr Leung was advised in all circumstances where possible horses should be ridden in a somewhat consistent manner and he has an obligation to ensure this. ROYAL ARMY and PLANET RULER were sent for sampling.
