Racing Incident Report
While parading prior to the race, GETMORE DANCER shifted its right fore plate. The horse was returned to the saddling stalls, replated, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and considered suitable to race. BLAZING BOB, which was fractious, began awkwardly, bumped the outside of its gate and lost ground at the start. BLOOMING START was slow to begin. In the early stages, BLOOMING START proved difficult to settle, on a number of occasions got its head up and shifted ground and at the 900 Metres shifted in and caused inconvenience to MONEY. At the 800 Metres, TANAHMERAH was steadied away from the heels of JOYFUL MASTER which steadied in front. Inconvenience was caused to BLOOMING START which was following. Shortly after this, TANAHMERAH shifted in and caused crowding on its inside to MONEY. In the Straight, GETMORE DANCER hung in. Near the winning post, BLOOMING START shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip. Throughout the race, SOUTH CHINA NINETY and GOLFING PARTNERS were obliged to race wide and without cover. W M Lai (JOYFUL MASTER) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in the same manner as when he had been successful on it in its two most recent starts, that being with cover if possible. He said from a barrier towards the outside today, JOYFUL MASTER began well and he shifted across in an endeavour to find cover, however, was not able to do so, the horse proved very difficult to settle and he therefore allowed it to stride forward and raced outside ASSET PLAY in the lead. He said at no stage did JOYFUL MASTER relax and in the Straight gave ground quickly. In his opinion, the horse's poor performance today could be attributed solely to the fact that the horse not being able to obtain cover in the run and therefore over-racing. JOYFUL MASTER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of JOYFUL MASTER after the race did not show any significant findings, however, it was noted to have a small laceration to the left fore cannon. TANAHMERAH and ASSET PLAY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted MONEY had sustained a cut to the left hind hock.
