Racing Incident Report

SMART WIN began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Shortly after the start, KASHMAC and TIME OF RED WINE were steadied when crowded for room between UTMOST EASY which shifted in and BOXING DAY which was carried out by LUCKY FRIENDS. In this incident, some inconvenience was also caused to BOXING DAY. Near the 1200 Metres, SMART WIN got its head up when close to the heels of GUSCOTT. In the early part of the Straight, RENA'S WUNDERBAR had some difficulty obtaining clear running. At the 200 Metres, GUSCOTT, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between SUPER CENTURY and RENA'S WUNDERBAR which itself was steadied and shifted in when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SMART WIN which shifted ground. No action was taken. Near the 100 Metres, SUPER CENTURY, which was giving ground, and RENA'S WUNDERBAR raced tight inside SMART WIN. Throughout the race, ME AND YOU raced in a forward position but wide without cover. TIME OF RED WINE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, TIME OF RED WINE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. The performance of TIME OF RED WINE, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before the horse will be permitted to race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. THUNDER MAN and SMART WIN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 10 Apr. 2003) :
Following the race, TIME OF RED WINE was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer and no significant findings were made at that time. TIME OF RED WINE was this morning again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man and was noted to be lame in the right fore leg.
As previously advised, TIME OF RED WINE will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
