Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, CORAJOSO knuckled badly and became badly unbalanced. MIRACLES began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the inside gate of its stall. SHABU SHABU was a little slow to begin, then despite being ridden hard in the early stages failed to muster speed and got back. V-CAN bounded in the air at the start. MARANELLO and FOREVER WIN were slow to begin. At the 800 Metres, SENSIBLE WAY was crowded for room inside TAMAR. Shortly after the 400 Metres, SENSIBLE WAY was checked when disappointed for running between V-CAN and MIRACLES. F Coetzee (SING A SONG) said the horse was making a considerable breathing noise which was of concern to him prior to straightening and therefore he did not ride his mount out in the Straight. SING A SONG was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of SING A SONG following the race did not reveal any abnormalities. The performance of SING A SONG was considered unacceptable. Before the horse will be permitted to race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M Cahill (MIRACLES) explained he had been instructed to ride his mount in a forward position and endeavour to avoid being caught wide from an outside barrier. He said MIRACLES got its head up at the start, dwelt a little and consequently was slow to begin, however, he was able to improve his position and shift across to race outside THE GRAND ROOF in the lead without making much use of his horse. He said he noted MIRACLES had its tongue over the bit behind the barrier and this was corrected before being loaded, however, he again became aware during the race that MIRACLES had its tongue out the side of its mouth and after the race he was of the opinion MIRACLES again had its tongue over the bit. M Cahill said he had advised Trainer D Cruz of this following the race. MIRACLES was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, MIRACLES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. LITTLE ELEPHANT and MARANELLO were sent for sampling.
