Racing Incident Report

SPRINTER was slow to begin. In the early stages, WATCH ME WIN proved difficult to settle. STOIC began awkwardly and got its head up. MONEY WINS was slow to begin. ENGINEERING WONDER, which was being ridden in a forward position tonight, proved difficult to settle after crossing to the fence and leading near the 1400 Metres. Near the 1000 Metres, C'EST LA VIE, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when close to the heels of FIGHTING MASCOT. At the 600 Metres, MONEY WINS lost its position when momentarily crowded for room between SPRINTER and ADMIRAL which shifted out slightly. Shortly after straightening, DESERT STORM was bumped on two occasions by SILVERBIRD as SILVERBIRD attempted to improve on the outside of SHINING GEM and to the inside of DESERT STORM. Over the concluding stages, MASTER MAGIC was awkwardly placed outside the heels of DESERT STORM and therefore was not ridden to the line as it normally would be. O Doleuze (SPRINTER) explained after being slow to begin from barrier 1, he immediately shifted the horse out to race three wide as the horse has always performed best when being ridden outside runners. B Prebble (SHINING GEM) said he had been instructed not to fire the horse up in the early stages of tonight's race as it was stepping up in distance to 1600 Metres and it was felt if ridden along in the early stages it might over-race. He said SHINING GEM began well and travelled into a forward position without having any pressure applied to it and when the pace was moderate in the early stages, he allowed SHINING GEM to continue forward and crossed to race outside the lead at about the 900 Metres. He said given the slow tempo of the race, he expected SHINING GEM to close the race off strongly, however, when asked to respond after straightening, it failed to do so. FIGHTING MASCOT, SILVERBIRD and STRATEGIC SELECT were sent for sampling.
