Racing Incident Report
As the start was effected, WATCH ME WIN lunged forward and broke open the front gates of its stall. As a consequence of this, WATCH ME WIN lost ground. EXULTATION got its head up on jumping and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between SHABU SHABU and DISTINCTION which was carried out by ARROGANCE which shifted ground on jumping. In this incident, DISTINCTION also became unbalanced. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUPER FORCE, which was proving difficult to settle, was checked when crowded for room between WATCH ME WIN which had been hard ridden to improve on its inside and SING A SONG which shifted in momentarily. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. From a wide barrier, EVER GLORY was obliged to race wide and without cover and at about the 1200 Metres commenced to go forward in an endeavour to obtain a position closer to the rail. Also from a wide gate, MASTER MARAUDER was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout. For some distance after the 600 Metres, CLASSA WIN raced tight inside STOIC which initially got its head on the side and shifted in when tight inside SING A SONG and close to the heels of SUPER FORCE. After the 300 Metres, STOIC was checked when disappointed for running between WATCH ME WIN and SUPER FORCE, both of which shifted ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. F Coetzee (SING A SONG) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said in the early stages he had to ride his mount along hard to obtain a forward position as he had been instructed to do. He said at no stage of the race did SING A SONG travel and over the concluding stages dropped out. He said following the race SING A SONG made an abnormal breathing noise. He added he did not ride SING A SONG in track work, however, he was aware the horse's recent work had been satisfactory considering the horse is not regarded as a good track worker. The performance of SING A SONG was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SING A SONG was sent for a clinical veterinary examination WATCH ME WIN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, SING A SONG and WATCH ME WIN were examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. CLASSA WIN and EXULTATION were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DISTINCTION had blood present at the left nostril. An endoscopic examination was carried out by the Veterinary Officer. This showed blood in the larynx and trachea of DISTINCTION and as such it was reported as having bled.
