Racing Incident Report

LOK WAH SUCCESS was slow to begin. At the 800 Mares, SUPER FAST was steadied when momentarily crowded by GRANDIOSO which shifted in when not quite clear. For some distance near the 600 Metres, AMAZING VICTORY raced tight inside JOLLY GAINS. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER hung out throughout and tailed out. The performance of KNOWLEDGE IS POWER was considered unacceptable. Before the horse will be permitted to race again, it must perform competitively in an official barrier trial around a bend and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. S K Sit (PLENTY OF LUCK) said when he rode the horse at its most recent start, it raced in a forward position and then failed to finish the race off. He said because of this, today he had been instructed to ride PLENTY OF LUCK somewhere around midfield. He said PLENTY OF LUCK began very well as is usual, however, he immediately took hold of his mount and steadied it back to a position just behind midfield. He said because of the manner in which he had ridden PLENTY OF LUCK in the early stages, the horse today finished the race off in his opinion nicely. W C Marwing (COMPANION) said it had been his intention to ride the horse in a forward position as is usual. He said immediately when the gates opened, COMPANION jumped awkwardly, hit the outside gate of its barrier and became unbalanced, because of this his saddle shifted noticeably to the left hand side. He said he immediately tried to correct the position of the saddle by shifting his weight to the right side, however, when doing this, the saddle shifted back, resulting in it taking some time for him to become balanced on COMPANION and as a consequence the horse got much further back than was intended. He went on to say he then had no option other than to allow COMPANION to race near the tail of the field and in the Straight the horse finished off in a manner which would suggest had it raced in a forward position, it would have been in the finish. COMPANION and JOLLY GAINS were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, COMPANION and JOLLY GAINS were examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said both horses had a mild soft palate problem. AMAZING VICTORY and GRANDIOSO were sent for sampling.
