Racing Incident Report
KEEN WINNER was slow to begin and shortly after the start got its head up. DYNAMIC FUN began awkwardly and brushed the outside of its gate. DIAMOND MOON was slow into stride. At the 1600 Metres, TRIUMPHANT FEELING was momentarily steadied away from the heels of ISLAND WEST TREBLE. At the 1300 Metres, ISLAND WEST TREBLE became unbalanced and bumped the running rail when momentarily crowded inside CELEBRATION which had a tendency to lay in. ZIETENGO BOY commenced to give ground from the 700 Metres. At the 600 Metres, ELEPHANT DANCE was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of ZIETENGO BOY. At the 400 Metres, ZIETENGO BOY, which was continuing to give ground, was checked when crowded for room between ISLAND WEST TREBLE and CELEBRATION. KEEN WINNER, which was following, was also checked. DIAMOND MOON was hampered in this incident. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. Approaching the 200 Metres, SPRINTER was checked when crowded for room between TRIUMPHANT FEELING and DIAMOND MOON, both of which shifted ground. In the circumstances, no action was taken. At the 100 Metres, CHEERS WINNER and NASA PEARL, which were giving ground, were crowded for room between ISLAND WEST TREBLE and SNOWSTORM. After the 100 Metres, SPRINTER, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the outside of ELEPHANT DANCE to continue going forward. Throughout the race, ELEPHANT DANCE hung in and in the Straight proved difficult to ride out. ZIETENGO BOY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of ZIETENGO BOY, which tailed out, did not reveal any significant findings. The performance of ZIETENGO BOY was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DYNAMIC FUN and CELEBRATION were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 16 Jan. 2003) :
A veterinary examination of ZIETENGO BOY after this race did not show any significant findings. ZIETENGO BOY was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer today. He said at this time the horse had a corneal abrasion and conjunctivitis of the right eye.
As previously advised, ZIETENGO BOY will not be allowed to race again until it performs competitively in an official barrier trial and passes an official veterinary examination.
