Racing Incident Report
R Fradd (PLEASANT SUCCESS) weighed in 2 lbs over his declared weight following the race. He said the girth and surcingle with which he had weighed out had been changed by the stable staff and in his opinion this explained the gain in weight. The change of this gear had been reported to the Stewards prior to the race. Mr P F Yiu, trainer of PLEASANT SUCCESS, said the girth and surcingle with which Jockey Fradd had weighed out were too long for the horse and as such his stable staff changed this gear. Mr Yiu informed the Stewards this was the first occasion on which Jockey Fradd had ridden PLEASANT SUCCESS and therefore he was not aware of its girth size. As the Stewards had been informed of this change of gear prior to the race, no action was taken, however, Mr Yiu was advised in future he should whenever possible confer with the jockey riding his horse prior to weighing out to ensure the appropriate gear is included in the rider's weight. WINNING FIESTA and MILLENNIUM SUPREME were slow to begin. At the winning post on the first occasion, CLASSIC CHOICE, which was being steadied in an endeavour to shift in and find cover, was momentarily crowded by GOOD FRIENDS. In the early and middle stages, GOOD FRIENDS was obliged to race wide without cover. At the 1200 Metres, WHATA FEELING, which was proving difficult to settle, was momentarily crowded by UNIVERSAL PEGASUS. At the 1000 Metres, CLASSIC CHOICE was steadied away from the heels of METRO TRAVELLER. At the 800 Metres, D Whyte (ROMANTIC VENTURE) reached down with his left hand and re-positioned his foot in the stirrup. For some distance after the 600 Metres, WHATA FEELING was awkwardly placed on the heels of UNIVERSAL PEGASUS which was giving ground. This caused WHATA FEELING to lose significant ground. Shortly after straightening, METRO TRAVELLER, which was inclined to lay in, clipped the heels of GOOD FRIENDS, blundered and almost fell. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, WHATA FEELING was held up and unable to obtain clear running. After the 200 Metres, to obtain clear running, WHATA FEELING was steadied and shifted to the outside of GOOD FRIENDS. In the Straight, WINNING FIESTA hung in and proved difficult to ride. Also in the Straight, ROMANTIC VENTURE was inclined to lay out. S K Sit (TAMBORA STAR) explained the intention had been to ride the horse in about the 3rd or 4th position, however, almost immediately on jumping, his horse was unable to hold its position between LONGMARK and ROMANTIC VENTURE which was taken out by UNIVERSAL PEGASUS. He said because of this incident TAMBORA STAR was reluctant to stride out and as a consequence got much further back than was anticipated. METRO TRAVELLER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. Following the race, METRO TRAVELLER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in its right fore leg. Before METRO TRAVELLER can race again, it will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOP QUALITY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of TOP QUALITY after the race did not reveal any significant findings. CLASSIC CHOICE and PLEASANT SUCCESS were sent for sampling. Following the race, the Veterinary Officer noted GOOD FRIENDS had sustained abrasions to both hind legs.
