Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, FANTASTICO became very fractious, reared and got its head over the front gates of its stall. FULL MOMENTUM was a little slow to begin and was then bumped by ON SHAN EXPRESS which shifted in. For a short distance approaching the 200 Metres, PALETTE NATURAL was held up behind SOUTHERN LIGHT and on the inside of HEARTY SUPPORT. Near the 200 Metres, ON SHAN EXPRESS, which was closing off, was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of FANTASTICO which was taken out by HEARTY SUPPORT which in turn was taken out by PALETTE NATURAL which shifted to the outside of SOUTHERN LIGHT to obtain running and go forward. MIGHTY AND GOLD, which was following, was steadied in consequence. S Dye (PALETTE NATURAL) said the horse in its recent starts when racing in a forward position had failed to finish the race off. He said today the intention was to ride the horse behind the leaders and endeavour to get it settled. He said when horses crossed from his outside, PALETTE NATURAL relaxed nicely for him and was initially travelling comfortably behind FANTASTICO. He said approaching the 800 Metres KNIGHT TEMPLAR went forward of him and he allowed that horse to cross his running as in his opinion to ride PALETTE NATURAL along and maintain his position behind FANTASTICO would have caused the horse to commence to over-race and therefore would have been detrimental to its chances. He said PALETTE NATURAL was able to make nice ground on the latter part of the Home Turn and was in what he considered a favourable position on straightening. S Dye added PALETTE NATURAL appreciated being ridden in the manner which it was today and indicated in future if the horse draws a wide barrier, he would wish to ride the horse even further back in the field. LUCKY OWNERS and PALETTE NATURAL were sent for sampling. Following the race, R Fradd (WONDERFUL WIN) said in his opinion the horse was sore. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said WONDERFUL WIN was lame in its left fore leg. Before WONDERFUL WIN can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
