Racing Incident Report
THE GREATEST stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. PERFECT SHADOW was slow to begin. When the gates opened, GREAT KID bounded in the air, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of SILVERBIRD. For some distance after the 800 Metres, TOUCH OF CLASS raced tight between TIMBER CITY and FLYING SUCCESS which itself was racing tight inside the heels of THE FACULTY. As this crowding continued approaching the 600 Metres, TOUCH OF CLASS was steadied when crowded for room between TIMBER CITY which became unbalanced and shifted out and FLYING SUCCESS which was again taken in slightly by THE FACULTY (A Suborics). A Suborics was advised to ensure he left comfortable racing room for runners to his inside. JOYFUL STAR made the Home Turn awkwardly and was inclined to lay out. At the 200 Metres, PERFECT SHADOW became unbalanced when being steadied as a result of being crowded for room between LUCKY BIRD and THE FACULTY, both of which shifted some ground. In the run to the winning post, TIMBER CITY raced tight inside SHOW WIN which shifted in away from GREAT KID. Y T Cheng (CHOICE AND CHANCE) explained he had been instructed by Mr T W Leung, trainer of the horse, that he was not to place his mount under pressure until about the 300 Metres. He said his mount travelled well in the run and on straightening he shifted to a position behind LOVE ON EARTH as he was of the view this horse would carry him forward into the race. He said he remained following LOVE ON EARTH until about the 300 Metres when he shifted to its outside and immediately placed CHOICE AND CHANCE under pressure. He said CHOICE AND CHANCE then only finished the race off fairly. Mr Leung confirmed the instructions issued to Y T Cheng and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. Mr Leung did point out CHOICE AND CHANCE only had a short sprint which was apparent in its recent races. The explanations submitted were accepted. FLYING SUCCESS and SILVERBIRD were sent for sampling.
