Racing Incident Report
WONDERFUL LIFE was withdrawn on 30.12.02 on veterinary grounds (sore right fore fetlock) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter XLERATE. Before WONDERFUL LIFE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. MAIN ATTRACTION began awkwardly and bumped the outside of the starting stall. LUCKY DICE bounded in the air at the start, shifted out and bumped MEHBOOB THE THIRD. Near the 1600 Metres, BOUNTIFUL was bumped by POPULAR CHOICE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from GUSCOTT as that horse was shifting across to race in the lead on the fence. In the early stages, MEMBERS GLORY proved difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up. XLERATE and MEHBOOB THE THIRD, which were following, were inconvenienced as a consequence and forced to race wider. After this, MEHBOOB THE THIRD was allowed to stride forward to race outside the leader. At the 300 Metres, GOLDEN MAPLE was steadied and shifted out in an endeavour to find clear running. After this, GOLDEN MAPLE hung in while being ridden out and near the winning post shifted ground and brushed SAMMY TREASURE. When giving ground over the concluding stages, LUCKY DICE hung out. S Dye (BOUNTIFUL) said he enjoyed a good position behind GUSCOTT until the 700 Metres, then when POPULAR CHOICE crossed GUSCOTT to lead on the fence, it caused him to be shuffled back further than he wished. He said he was able to obtain clear running in the Straight, however, the horse failed to respond when put under pressure and although BOUNTIFUL was inclined to lay in was in his opinion disappointing. He attributed the performance of BOUNTIFUL to today's track conditions and said in his opinion the horse needs give in the ground to produce its best. BOUNTIFUL, XLERATE and MEHBOOB THE THIRD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted SUPER SPLENDID was bleeding from both nostrils. Also after the race, C Williams reported JUST TOO GOOD in his opinion was not striding out freely. JUST TOO GOOD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. The Veterinary Officer reported he examined MAIN ATTRACTION following the race. He said the horse had sustained a laceration to the left chest.
