Racing Incident Report
CAVIAR ONE was slowly away. About the 500 Metres, NAZAKAT II got its head on the side, shifted in and was momentarily awkward on the hindquarters of PERFECT MOMENT. For some distance near the 400 Metres, TALK OF THE TOWN had trouble obtaining clear running. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether DASH FOR VICTORIES (C Soumillon) should be declared the winner of the race. D Whyte (NAZAKAT II), 3rd placegetter, and Mr K W Lui, trainer of the horse, sought permission to view the available videos of the race before deciding whether they should have the matter resolved formally at a protest/objection hearing (Rule 123). D Whyte, the rider of NAZAKAT II, 3rd placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against DASH FOR VICTORIES being declared the winner alleging interference to his mount over about the last 200 Metres. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that running towards the 200 Metres, DASH FOR VICTORIES did shift in slightly towards NAZAKAT II which itself shifted ground, then bumped with INCREDIBLE, shifted out and made contact with DASH FOR VICTORIES. After this, DASH FOR VICTORIES did shift some ground and bumped NAZAKAT II. However, the Stewards after considering all the circumstances and the manner in which the two horses found the line did not consider, despite the interference caused to NAZAKAT II by DASH FOR VICTORIES, that NAZAKAT II would have finished in front of DASH FOR VICTORIES had the incident which did take place not occurred. Accordingly the protest/objection was overruled and the Judge's placings as semaphored confirmed. Mr K L Man (DASH FOR VICTORIES) said the horse is only lightly raced, has been showing improvement both in its recent runs and on the track. He did expect the horse would improve today, but was surprised it was able to win. He said he mentioned this to the owners and their support for the horse today was very moderate. The explanations submitted were accepted. S Dye (CAVIAR ONE) explained the horse does have a history of being slow from the gates. At its last run from a good draw, CAVIAR ONE had missed the start and after being ridden along was able to travel in a forward position. He said today the horse missed the start badly, got well back, at no stage of the race travelled as he thought it would and was beaten a long way out. CAVIAR ONE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, CAVIAR ONE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. Mucus was noted in the horse's trachea. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. TALK OF THE TOWN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. Subsequent to the race, TALK OF THE TOWN was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. DASH FOR VICTORIES and WINNING ASSOCIATES were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted PERFECT MOMENT was bleeding from both nostrils. Also after the race, it was noted DANELAW was making an abnormal breathing noise. This has been reported previously and at this time no further action was considered necessary.
