Racing Incident Report
WIN HUNTER left the gates a little awkwardly and almost immediately was reluctant to hold its position between SWEETIE and PEARL AND GOLD. G Mossé (WIN HUNTER) said throughout the event the horse raced greenly, several occasions got its head up, shifted ground and brushed the running rail. Just after the start, SWEETIE and PEARL AND GOLD were crowded for room between TOUCH DOWN and LEPRECHAUN TOO (K S Yu) which was shifting in. K S Yu was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care. Turning out of the Straight the first time, EL CAPITAN threw its head about when pulling and close to the heels of SWEETIE. Near the 1000 Metres, LEPRECHAUN TOO and EUPHORIC KID brushed. Just after this, LEPRECHAUN TOO got its head up and hung out onto the heels of APPLIED SUPREME. PEARL AND GOLD, which was following, was hampered as a consequence. Also near the 1000 Metres, E Saint-Martin (SWEETIE) reached down with his right hand and made an adjustment to the position of his foot in the stirrup. From about the 600 Metres until after straightening, PEARL AND GOLD was held up behind LEPRECHAUN TOO which was weakening. In the Straight, APPLIED SUPREME hung in, because of this after the 200 Metres Y T Cheung stopped riding and changed his whip hand. PEARL AND GOLD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, PEARL AND GOLD was examined. No abnormalities were detected. CHAMPION BOY, LONGMARK and TOUCH DOWN were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 9 Dec. 2002) :
Subsequent to the race, PEARL AND GOLD was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He could find no abnormalities. However, the horse was examined at the stable of Mr K C Lo yesterday morning, was found to be uncomfortable and not striding out freely with its front legs.
The matter has been referred to the stable Veterinary Surgeon for further investigation and it has been decided before PEARL AND GOLD can race again, it must pass an official veterinary examination.
