Racing Incident Report

When the gates were released, TEMMOKU, which had drawn stall 11, had its head turned to the left hand side into stall 12 and behind an upright. As a consequence, the horse was not able to jump. The Stewards were of the view that it had had an unfair start and accordingly deemed TEMMOKU to be a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. The Stewards also considered the start of THUNDER STORM (G Mossé). It was established that TEMMOKU, which had drawn inside it, had its head turned out across the body of G Mossé when the gates opened. Because of this, THUNDER STORM was unable to leave the stalls cleanly, began awkwardly, causing G Mossé to bump his left arm against the partition and be almost dislodged. THUNDER STORM then shifted out abruptly and collided rather heavily with NOBLE BOY (R Quinn). In all the circumstances, the Stewards considered that THUNDER STORM had not had a fair start and accordingly deemed the horse to be a non-runner [Rule 12(19)]. As a result of the incident with THUNDER STORM, R Quinn became badly unbalanced, NOBLE BOY lost a lot of ground and got well back. MR BASKETBALL left the gates awkwardly. COMME D'HABITUDE was slowly away. About 100 Metres out, NOBLE BOY, which was closing strongly, was steadied and changed course abruptly to avoid REWARD which was stopping. R Quinn said in the middle stages he looked several times to check the position of his saddle. He said he was aware it had shifted back slightly and it was causing him some difficulty. LOYAL DEVOTION was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, LOYAL DEVOTION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. However, it was decided that before the horse can race again, it must pass an official veterinary examination. BY INSTINCT, FRAME'S PEOPLE and MR BASKETBALL were sent for sampling.
