Racing Incident Report

MAIN ATTRACTION, which was restless after being boxed, was slowly away. JOYOUS CHEERS jumped very awkwardly, bumped the inside of its starting stall and just after the start made contact with CLAWS OF THUNDER. Shortly after the start, SPINNING CITY and ACTIVE ACCOUNT bumped. About the 900 Metres, SPINNING CITY was steadied to avoid the heels of JOYOUS CHEERS (W C Marwing) which shifted in when not quite clear. W C Marwing was told he must exercise more care. Over about the last 50 Metres, PRINCE GOLF was awkward just inside the hindquarters of JOYOUS CHEERS. In the Straight, CLAWS OF THUNDER hung in and because of this proved somewhat difficult to ride out. D Dunn (SPINNING CITY) explained at the horse's last start it had been slowly away, today the intention was to try and ensure SPINNING CITY jumped, then took up a position somewhere towards the middle or a little further back. He said SPINNING CITY left the gates cleanly and quickly and in the early stages rather than be caught wide, he thought it was in the best interests of SPINNING CITY to allow the horse to run along into a more forward position than was planned. The explanations submitted were accepted. S Dye (SUPER SUCCESS) explained he had been asked by the trainer to try and ride the horse quietly and to ensure he found cover. He said in the early stages he was racing wide without any cover, near the 600 Metres as the pace was in his opinion not that strong, he considered going forward, but immediately SUPER SUCCESS was a beaten horse and as he felt there was something wrong with its action in front, he did not ride SUPER SUCCESS out in the Straight as he normally would. Before SUPER SUCCESS can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. SUPER SUCCESS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, the horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said he was unable to find any abnormalities. A further examination will be carried out tomorrow. PRINCE GOLF was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. The Veterinary Officer examined PRINCE GOLF after the race. No abnormalities were detected. CHAMPION SPEED and SPINNING CITY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 2 Dec. 2002) :
After the race, PRINCE GOLF was examined. No abnormalities were detected. The horse was again examined yesterday at the stable of Mr K C Lo and its left front leg was swollen and painful. Dr Brian Stewart, Senior Veterinary Officer, also said the horse had sustained a small cut on the cannon area and he said the swelling is as a result of the bruising and infection of the wound. Further investigative work will be done. However, before the horse can race again, it must pass an official veterinary examination.
SUPER SUCCESS
Today the above horse was examined at the stable of Mr K W Lui. No abnormalities were detected.
