Racing Incident Report
At the start, UNBREAKABLE was bumped by ZINEDINE which shifted in abruptly. SAMMY TREASURE was slow to begin and then was further inconvenienced when crowded for room between NEW FACE and LASER PRIDE, both of which shifted ground. From the outside gate, GOLDEN SPIRIT was immediately steadied and taken across behind the field to a position on the rail. For a short distance near the 1000 Metres, DOLBRIDGE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LASER PRIDE. At the 500 Metres, LASER PRIDE was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of THE GREATEST which commenced to give ground. THE GREATEST continued to give ground and finished tailed off. THE GREATEST was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, THE GREATEST was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying signs of an irregular heart rhythm. He also performed an endoscopic examination which showed mucus in the trachea. After the 100 Metres, MY JOY shifted out, obliging R Fradd to stop riding and straighten. DOLBRIDGE, GOLDEN SPIRIT and MY JOY were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 28 Nov. 2002) :
As was reported last night, THE GREATEST following the running of this race was displaying signs of an irregular heart rhythm. THE GREATEST will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination prior to racing again.
