Racing Incident Report
THE DUKE was withdrawn on 22.11.02 on veterinary grounds (swollen both hocks) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PRECIOUS SWEETIE (Apprentice M W Leung). Before THE DUKE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. SEREVI left the gates very awkwardly with its head up and shifted out abruptly. As a consequence of this, TOM'S FIRST was inconvenienced. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. TRIUMPHANT MASTER jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the inside of its starting stall, then threw its head about. In the early stages, WELL BEST pulled hard and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORTUNE LIFE, then about the 800 Metres WELL BEST was shifted to the outside. As a consequence of this, inconvenience was caused to FLORAL DYNAMITE which was obliged to race wider for some distance. For some distance in the early part of the Straight, TRIUMPHANT MASTER was held up on the heels of TOM'S FIRST, which was also having trouble finding running, and tight inside HIGH SPIRITS. Approaching the 200 Metres, HOROSCOPE was shifted out to find running, but then did not close off as would be anticipated. Near the 200 Metres, BOBO DUCK was checked when disappointed for running inside MERRY MERRY which was giving ground. In view of the circumstances, no action was taken. R Fradd (GREEN CENTURY) was severely reprimanded for shifting his mount from behind PRECIOUS SWEETIE approaching the 200 Metres, as a consequence crowding FORTUNE LIFE onto SEREVI which in turn shifted ground and inconvenienced HIGH SPIRITS. During the incident, FORTUNE LIFE was checked. At the conclusion of the inquiry, G Schofield (FORTUNE LIFE) was told he will be expected to provide more straightforward evidence. In the run to the winning post, WELL BEST shifted in and made contact with GREEN CENTURY. FLORAL DYNAMITE and DANEHILL WARRIOR were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 25 Nov. 2002) :
When examined this morning, it was noted MERRY MERRY was found to have sustained an injury to its left front tendon. Before MERRY MERRY can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
