Racing Incident Report

SCENIC STAR left the gates awkwardly. When the gates opened, SENSIBLE WAY bounded in the air, then just after the start was bumped by TAMAR which shifted out. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, EVER SUCCESS hung out. For some distance approaching and rounding the Home Turn, D'OR WIN was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SENSIBLE WAY and tight inside TAMAR. In the Straight, SCENIC STAR hung in. E Legrix (SHINING GEM) explained it had been the intention to get back with the horse. He said however on jumping SHINING GEM stumbled, he was reluctant to push it along and as a consequence got back to last, further out of his ground than planned. He did say however in the run he was travelling behind OPERATION HUMOUR and therefore was not overly concerned with his position. He said in the Straight he was initially able to improve, however, after the 200 Metres he was anticipating obtaining a run between TAMAR and GOLFING PARTNERS which was weakening, then as he went into the run near the 100 Metres, GOLFING PARTNERS momentarily shifted out, he had to check. He concluded by saying in the Straight he was not able to ride SHINING GEM in his normal fashion. E Legrix did say it may be that SHINING GEM is now looking for more ground in its races. When questioned, A Marcus (STRONGHEART) explained before the race the trainer had instructed him to ensure the horse was steadied on jumping and took up a position towards the rear. A Marcus said this was because of the outside draw. He said he was of the opinion Mr J Moore intended to report this matter to the Racing Stewards. A Marcus said he was aware STRONGHEART had previously suffered a bleeding attack, today in the early part of the Straight he steadied behind DOUBLE HAPPINESS for longer than he normally would in an endeavour to hold STRONGHEART up for a late closing run. Before the matter is concluded, the Stewards intend to discuss it with Mr Moore, trainer of STRONGHEART, and this will be done next Wednesday evening 13 November 2002 at the Sha Tin Racecourse. DOUBLE HAPPINESS, OPERATION HUMOUR and EVER SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
