Racing Incident Report

FULL MOMENTUM was slowly away. MONTEGO GREEN left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, shifted out abruptly and bumped the hindquarters of WISDOM EXPRESS. On leaving the gates, GREELEY JUNIOR shifted out away from LOMBARD and bumped FIRST KNIGHT which was carried across the heels of CLASSIC RIZZI. Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, LOMBARD hung out. Y T Cheng (WISDOM EXPRESS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that near the winning post, he allowed his mount to shift in whilst riding along when not clear of MONTEGO GREEN. As a consequence of this, MONTEGO GREEN lost running to which it was rightfully entitled, was checked and FIRST KNIGHT hampered. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards were of the opinion the appropriate penalty in this case was for Y T Cheng to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 11 November 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the meeting next Saturday 26 October 2002 at Happy Valley. In the run to the winning post, GOOD HEART, which was closing off well, did not obtain running. Because of this, it was not ridden right out to the finish in the normal fashion. In the Straight, FIRST KNIGHT raced greenly. MONTEGO GREEN, CLASSIC RIZZI and HAPPY ECLIPSE were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that GREELEY JUNIOR was bleeding from both nostrils.
