Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, PREDATOR became fractious and momentarily had its right hind leg caught on the side rail. PREDATOR was released from the gates and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. PREDATOR left the gates very awkwardly and threw its head about. DANELAW left the gates badly and threw its head in the air. Turning out of the Straight the first time, SECOND OPINION was severely checked, LUCK AND FORTUNE checked and FAIRY TALE badly unbalanced when tightened for room between DRAGON WIN which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly away from STAR WARRIOR and BELOVED PARTNER which made the first turn awkwardly and shifted out. The crowding was significant, but because of the circumstances involved, the Stewards were of the opinion that it was inappropriate to take any direct action. All riders present at the inquiry however were advised that more care than this is needed. When SECOND OPINION checked turning out of the Straight the first time, PREDATOR, which was following, was checked as a consequence and shifted out. On pulling up, it was noted that DANELAW was making a respiratory noise. This had previously been reported on 18 September 2002 and the horse was diagnosed as a "roarer". The Veterinary Officer said the condition appears to be stable and in his opinion no further action is required at this time. TOP QUALITY and LUCK AND FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
