Racing Incident Report

On jumping, LUCKY TRIO shifted out and bumped the shoulder of CONVERGENCE. Just after the start, HOROSCOPE was checked when unable to maintain its position between WYNDAM EASY and JOYFUL SPIRIT which had a tendency to shift out away from JOINT PEACE. About the 800 Metres, SPIRITUAL KING lost its position when awkwardly placed inside JOINT PEACE which shifted a little ground. Approaching the 400 Metres, CHOICE AND CHANCE (Y T Cheng) shifted out from behind LONGMARK, causing some inconvenience to JET JACKSON. Y T Cheng was told to exercise care at all times when shifting ground. Just after this, CHOICE AND CHANCE was momentarily unbalanced when awkward on the heels of CONVERGENCE. About 100 Metres out, A Marcus (JET JACKSON) dropped his whip. When questioned, W C Marwing (JOYFUL SPIRIT) said the horse, which was having its first run at Happy Valley tonight, left the gates cleanly and it was his intention to travel in a forward position if possible. He said early on JOYFUL SPIRIT was inclined to shift out, he rode along, but was not able to keep WYNDAM EASY out, had little alternative but to take up a position behind JOINT PEACE. He said along the Back Straight JOYFUL SPIRIT relaxed more than he thought it should, momentarily lost the position behind JOINT PEACE and this allowed CHOICE AND CHANCE to shift in in front of him. As a consequence of all these incidents, he got much further back in the race than was the intention and was obliged to follow CHOICE AND CHANCE until that horse shifted out near the 500 Metres. JOINT PEACE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. The post race clinical examination of JOINT PEACE revealed no abnormalities. WYNDAM EASY and JOYFUL SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
