Racing Incident Report
HONEST STEED left the gates a little awkwardly with its head up, was then checked when tightened for room between WINNING WAYS which shifted out and CHINA WORLD which shifted in. RECOGNITION jumped awkwardly and threw its head about. When questioned, F Coetzee (FABULOUS) said the horse is only small, weighing considerably less than 1,000 pounds. He said running to the Home Turn, FABULOUS was starting to give ground, TAMBORA STAR was endeavouring to shift out from behind the leader and carrying FABULOUS from a position which at that stage of the race F Coetzee thought he was still entitled to. He acknowledged in an endeavour to hold TAMBORA STAR in, he was inclined to unnecessarily raise his right elbow. F Coetzee was told whilst it is expected he should do all he can to hold his position in races, this type of riding should not be condoned from him nor from anyone else and he must refrain from such a practice. S Dye (BUTTERFORD) said from a good draw the horse left the gates well, took up a forward position, but immediately commenced to hang out. He said as the race progressed, the horse hung very badly and started to give ground a long way out. Mr T K Ng, trainer of BUTTERFORD, was told should it perform similarly again, action may be taken against it. ELECTRONIC SEEKER and SIR GALWAY were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
