Racing Incident Report

PAR AVION proved very difficult to saddle and because of this was late to the Parade Ring. As a consequence the race started late. REAL DRAGON left the gates awkwardly, shifted in and bumped QUICK NEWS. On jumping, PERFECT SCORE bounded in the air, then shifted in abruptly and bumped the hindquarters of TURF LUCK. In the early stages, JOYFUL MASTER hung in, then approaching and rounding the Home Turn hung out. Approaching the 800 Metres, PAR AVION, which had been hanging almost from the start, got its head on the side and hung in badly away from MY DELIGHT despite the efforts of D Dunn to keep the horse out. As a consequence of PAR AVION hanging in, REAL DRAGON, which was racing somewhat ungenerously itself, also had its head on the side and was crowded onto TURF LUCK. As a consequence, TURF LUCK became badly unbalanced and REAL DRAGON was checked severely and shifted out. Despite the severity of the interference, the Stewards were of the view that the matter was horse related in that PAR AVION was hanging in badly at the time. Accordingly no direct action was taken, however, Mr P Chapple-Hyam, trainer of PAR AVION, will be told if the horse continues to race similarly, action may be taken against it. After the 800 Metres, WONDERFUL WIN was steadied when crowded between PERFECT SCORE and BLAZING MOON which was racing tight inside JOYFUL MASTER. Shortly after this, TURF LUCK was steadied and shifted out to avoid WONDERFUL WIN, then for some time following this, TURF LUCK raced awkwardly between WONDERFUL WIN and PAR AVION which was hanging in. JOYFUL MASTER and TURF LUCK were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said PAR AVION had sustained a laceration to the outside of its off side hind cannon.
