Racing Incident Report
The Stewards requested that the temperature of INDIGENOUS be taken before the horse was presented for the race. The Veterinary Surgeon said this was done at 2:50 pm and the temperature was found to be normal (100.0 ºF). When the gates opened, LUCKSWELL bounded in the air. In the early stages, MOMENTUM pulled very hard and several times threw its head about when close to the heels of PEAK POWER. When asked about the disappointing performance of INDIGENOUS, W C Marwing said he had been asked to ride the horse in a similar manner to which it was ridden last weekend in Singapore. Accordingly he rode along in the early stages to take up a position towards the front, was able to get in one away from the rail turning out of the Straight the first time, but he said shortly after the 1600 Metres he had to push INDIGENOUS along to try and maintain its position, just after that he became well aware that the horse would not be figuring in the finish. He did hit INDIGENOUS several times with the whip, but when the horse did not respond, he rode it out for the rest of the race hands and heels and INDIGENOUS continued to drop out. INDIGENOUS and RAINBOW AND GOLD were sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was reported that RAINBOW AND GOLD was bleeding from both nostrils.
