Racing Incident Report
CUPID, which was restless in the boxes, came out awkwardly. DIAMOND TALENTS missed the start. HIGH SPIRITS was slowly away. From an outside gate, EQUIKIT was steadied and shifted across behind the runners to take up a position near the rail but at the rear. When being steadied on leaving the gates, EQUIKIT threw its head about, then turning out of the Straight the first time was momentarily crowded by SPEEDY FORWARD which was racing tight inside MONZA KING. About the 1400 Metres, ARRIBA-ARRIBA and SIXTY SECONDS came together as ARRIBA-ARRIBA endeavoured to shift out from behind MAGICAL WARRIOR. About the 300 Metres, NEW PLANET shifted out from behind DIAMOND TALENTS to find running. As a consequence of this, BIA DESERT was taken out and some inconvenience was caused to SPEEDY FORWARD. When weakening in the Straight, MAGICAL WARRIOR hung in. In the Straight, TURBOJET hung in and proved somewhat difficult to ride out. E Saint-Martin (CUPID) said in the Straight he was experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running and as a consequence was not able to properly test the horse out until about the last 100 Metres. The explanations submitted by E Saint-Martin were accepted, however, he was told whilst the Stewards were accepting what he had to say in relation to his riding in the Straight, he has a responsibility to ride all mounts whenever possible particularly over the concluding stages in a manner which leaves no room for question. D Whyte (MONZA KING) said at no stage of the race was the horse travelling as he thought it should and he was aware a long way out MONZA KING would not be figuring in the finish. MONZA KING was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
