Racing Incident Report

Whilst being saddled, the Veterinary Surgeon noted GREAT DRAGON had sustained a laceration to the near nostril and was bleeding from this area. He said in his opinion GREAT DRAGON was unfit to run and on this advice GREAT DRAGON was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. ROYAL ARMY was slowly away. Approaching the 800 Metres, HAPPY CHAMP was steadied when momentarily crowded between EL VIENTO which shifted out slightly and CENTURY STAR which shifted in slightly. About the 500 Metres, EL VIENTO became momentarily unbalanced and dipped. For some distance running to the Home Turn, EL VIENTO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT and tight inside HAPPY CHAMP. B Fayd'herbe (EL VIENTO) said he had been asked by the trainer to give the horse a chance in the run, but have it somewhere in the first half. He went on to say in the middle stages EL VIENTO was inclined to hang out. Over the concluding stages, SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT hung in. The notification of weighed-in was delayed as E Legrix (ALBELA) was of the view that he won the race. The Judge produced photographic evidence to verify the decision he had made and weighed-in was then semaphored.
