Racing Incident Report
When entries were taken for the meeting, Mr T W Leung entered RIVER OF CHINA for this race. The horse was drawn reserve No. 1. After the list of runners had come out, Mr Leung became aware that RIVER OF CHINA was being treated with a course of oral Dembrexine for a respiratory infection and realised the horse because of this treatment was ineligible for the race. Accordingly RIVER OF CHINA was withdrawn before declaration time. Mr Leung today acknowledged his mistake, however, he did produce evidence of having immediately put in place an improved system which should prevent such an occurrence from taking place in future. Mr Leung was found to be in breach of Rule 74(4) in that he had entered RIVER OF CHINA for a race in which it was ineligible because of the treatment it was under. Mr Leung was fined $5,000. A RUN OF LUCK and BLESSINGS' PARTNER were slowly away. When the gates opened, WINNING PARADE bounded in the air. From an outside gate, TWIN WIZARDS raced ungenerously throughout and covered a lot of ground. About the 800 Metres, ALL SATISFY was momentarily steadied when awkward just inside TABBRIS. A RUN OF LUCK, which was following, was hampered somewhat in consequence. Approaching the 400 Metres, CULLINAN (D Whyte) was racing to the outside of FORECAST TO WIN; near the 400 Metres shifted to the inside of FORECAST TO WIN as that horse shifted out slightly. As a consequence of this, both CULLINAN and FORTUNE MAPLE were endeavouring to improve inside FORECAST TO WIN. This resulted in FORTUNE MAPLE being unnecessarily crowded for room and having to be checked rather severely. ALL SATISFY, which was following, was checked as a consequence and A RUN OF LUCK was also hampered. It was decided not to take any direct action in respect of the incident, but D Whyte was told the manner in which he did endeavour to improve inside FORECAST TO WIN did not in the opinion of the Stewards show sufficient regard for his fellow riders. He was also told he has to exercise far more care than this. Near the 200 Metres, CULLINAN was steadied when momentarily awkward between FORECAST TO WIN and NEWSWIRE, then right on the winning post was steadied when close to the heels of TABBRIS.
