Racing Incident Report

STRAIGHT SCOTCH was slowly away, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of THE DUKE. After this, STRAIGHT SCOTCH shifted out abruptly across the heels of ABLE CHOICE. SONGS OF THE SUN left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, shifted in and bumped SPEED MASTER, because of this Apprentice K K Lai was momentarily unbalanced. CHARIOT OF WEI HAI jumped very awkwardly and shifted out. Near the 800 Metres, CRAIG'S HA HA and SHANGHAI FRIEND were momentarily crowded for room between WYNDAM EASY which shifted out and COUNTRY BOY which momentarily shifted in. After the 800 Metres, SPEED MASTER became unbalanced and lost its position when awkward just inside the hindquarters of PRINCELY HORSE. The occurrence was accidental. About the 500 Metres, MAIN ATTRACTION was momentarily unbalanced when awkward between COUNTRY BOY and CHARIOT OF WEI HAI. In the Straight, IN THE MONEY hung in badly and proved difficult to ride out. When giving ground in the Straight, SONGS OF THE SUN became unbalanced several times. S Dye (WYNDAM EASY) explained the horse in its previous runs had been inclined to come from the gates awkwardly and it was anticipated the same thing would happen today. He said he was instructed by the trainer not to ride WYNDAM EASY along too hard in the early stages as it was thought there was a lot of pace in the race. He went on to say when the gates opened WYNDAM EASY stood flat-footed, lost a lot of ground. He then settled in a position towards the rear of the field, when SPEED MASTER shifted across to the rail at about the 900 Metres, he eased to its outside. He said after this he was able to take up what he considered to be an ideal position about midfield and racing one away from the rail, however, near the 700 Metres when close to the heels of AMERICAN DEVIL, it became unbalanced, shifted out abruptly, WYNDAM EASY was rather severely inconvenienced, became unbalanced, shifted out very wide and after this covered ground. The explanations submitted were accepted. SONGS OF THE SUN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
