Racing Incident Report
Near the winning post the first time, JADE RUYI was unbalanced when awkwardly placed just inside the hindquarters of QUICK STEP. In the middle stages, JADE RUYI raced most ungenerously, got its head up, about the 500 Metres shifted ground onto the hindquarters of QUICK STEP and lost its position. In the early and middle stages, SCENIC STAR pulled very hard and threw its head about. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in. They were of the prima facie view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which cast sufficient doubt on whether DE INTEGRO should be declared the winner of the race. They decided there was justification to have the matter resolved formally and openly at a protest/objection hearing (Rule 123). D Whyte, the rider of EXCEPTIONAL, second placegetter, also lodged a protest/objection against DE INTEGRO (Apprentice S K Sit) being declared the winner, alleging interference to his mount in the Straight. Following the conduct of a formal hearing, the Stewards on all the available evidence were of the opinion that DE INTEGRO by shifting in in the Straight had caused crowding to EXCEPTIONAL. The Stewards formed the opinion that EXCEPTIONAL would have finished ahead of DE INTEGRO had the crowding which clearly took place not occurred. In arriving at this decision, the Stewards were aware that the margin between the two horses at the finish was a head. In sustaining the objection, they placed DE INTEGRO immediately behind EXCEPTIONAL [Rule 101(2)]. Accordingly the amended placings became EXCEPTIONAL 1st, DE INTEGRO 2nd, QUICK STEP 3rd, and SCENIC STAR 4th. After the race, M Kinane (FABULOUS) said he was concerned with the manner in which the horse finished the race off. FABULOUS was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and trotted up. An endoscopic examination was performed and the Veterinary Surgeon said he was unable to find any significant clinical abnormalities.
