Racing Incident Report

I DELIVER left the gates very awkwardly. MANY HAPPY RETURNS and GOLDEN DUKE were slowly away. After the 200 Metres, GOLDEN DUKE, which was closing the race off quite strongly, was steadied and shifted out abruptly to avoid LASER PRIDE. About 100 Metres out, Y T Cheng (MAJESTIC WARRIOR) dropped his whip. In the Straight, I DELIVER hung in and near the winning post brushed ORLANDO FLYER. When asked about the disappointing performance of LASER PRIDE, D Whyte said he had been giving the horse some easy work in the lead up to today's race, in this work LASER PRIDE had felt well and it was anticipated by both himself and the connections that the horse would run competitively tonight. He said he enjoyed a good run in the race, but from about the 400 Metres LASER PRIDE commenced to give ground, felt very uncomfortable underneath him and on passing the post pulled up much quicker than it should have done and was making an abnormal breathing noise. He said he was unable to put forward any real reason for the performance. In all the circumstances, the run of LASER PRIDE was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. ALBELA was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
