Racing Incident Report
After being boxed, DESERT STRIKE became fractious, got down and broke the front of the gates. Acting on veterinary advice, DESERT STRIKE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, DESERT STRIKE will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Just after the start, ME FIRST and WELL BEST bumped. Near the 800 Metres, GOOD MESSAGE had raced across from an outside gate to go to the front, then steadied slightly. When being eased to avoid the heels of GOOD MESSAGE, APRIL HARE, which was following, got its head up and lost ground. MUNDAHISH, which was following APRIL HARE, then shifted abruptly to the outside of that runner and as a consequence of this raced tight inside TABBRIS which was carried onto the heels of LITTLE PLAYTHING and checked. The crowding was severe, however, the Stewards were of the opinion that no one rider or riders was responsible and accordingly no action was taken. After the 800 Metres, SIGHT FIRST, which was racing tight inside MUNDAHISH, struck the running rail. In the early part of the Straight, LATIN DANCER was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between ME FIRST and NEW FACE. In the run to the winning post, SIGHT FIRST was held up behind GOOD MESSAGE. Because of this, SIGHT FIRST was not ridden out in the normal fashion to the finish. D Dunn (TABBRIS) said the horse had worked nicely in a recent barrier trial and was expected to run well today. He said although TABBRIS was crowded at about the 800 Metres, after this he did find a nice spot and the horse travelled well, but over about the last 200 Metres gave ground quickly and, despite the crowding in the middle stages, was generally disappointing. He said TABBRIS has at times got its tongue over the bit, but he was not sure whether this occurred today. TABBRIS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
