Racing Incident Report
Whilst in the Parade Ring, GOOD WIN kicked out and made contact with a rail. After arriving at the Start, GOOD WIN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, the Veterinary Surgeon noted blood in the mouth of MR BEAUTIFUL. He said this was as a result of the horse losing a milk tooth and after the necessary consultations the Veterinary Surgeon said the horse in his opinion was suitable to race. On jumping, WINWIN COMBO and CHIU CHOW HERO were crowded for room between VAJRA which on leaving the gates brushed with GREAT STAR and then shifted in and GOOD WIN which on jumping got its head up and shifted out abruptly. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. POWERFUL, which was standing with its head turned slightly to the off side when the gates opened, came out very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped INFINITE. GOLDEN STRIDE made the first turn awkwardly and hung out. In the early stages, CHIU CHOW HERO was inclined to race ungenerously and about the 800 Metres lost its position. In the middle stages, MR BEAUTIFUL hung out. About the 600 Metres, VAJRA got its head up and shifted out when racing close to the heels of FUTURES ENDEAVOUR. F Coetzee (FUTURES ENDEAVOUR) was asked about the disappointing performance of the horse. He said FUTURES ENDEAVOUR is quite a lethargic horse on the track, but its work in the lead up to today's run has been in his opinion satisfactory. He said whilst FUTURES ENDEAVOUR may look a little on the big side, the horse raced well when looking like this at its previous start. He went on to say FUTURES ENDEAVOUR went to the Start well, was about the second horse loaded, was standing quietly, but as the loading was being completed, he sought the assistance of an attendant to ensure FUTURES ENDEAVOUR was standing as it should when the gates opened. He said as the attendant got into the stall with FUTURES ENDEAVOUR, the horse became very excited, took some settling and he asked the attendant to remove himself. He said however despite all of this FUTURES ENDEAVOUR jumped satisfactorily, he had hoped to take up a position behind GOOD WIN which he anticipated would lead, but despite his efforts to keep GOLDEN STRIDE out, he was not able to do so and got further back than planned. He said near the 500 Metres he gave FUTURES ENDEAVOUR two or three hard smacks down the shoulder in an endeavour to keep up, the horse did not respond in the Straight under the whip, continued to give ground and overall was very disappointing. Mr A S Cruz, trainer of the horse, said after its last run the horse had done well and actually had put on 4 lbs in two days following that race. He said last Monday the horse had a 800 Metre gallop which was good and its final workout on Thursday morning was also good and he expected FUTURES ENDEAVOUR to win today. He was not able to put forward any real reason for the disappointing run. The performance of FUTURES ENDEAVOUR in the opinion of the Stewards was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination. FUTURES ENDEAVOUR was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said FUTURES ENDEAVOUR had sustained superficial abrasions to both hocks. Following the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that JOYFUL SPIRIT was lame in its off side hind leg. Before racing again, JOYFUL SPIRIT will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
