Racing Incident Report
VISORHILL was slowly away. NORTHERN FLYER left the gates awkwardly and just after the start bounded in the air. On jumping, HUANGDI bounded in the air. EPIC EXPRESSION was a little slowly away. E Legrix (VISORHILL) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that shortly after the start he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of ASIA RISING. As a consequence of this, ASIA RISING lost running to which it was rightfully entitled and was checked. After considering all the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was that E Legrix be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 28 February 2002 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting next Sunday 17 February 2002. About the 800 Metres, CAPE OF GOOD HOPE became momentarily unbalanced and struck the running rail. Also about the 800 Metres, VISORHILL was steadied when momentarily crowded by NORTHERN FLYER. Rounding the Home Turn, ALL THE BEST hung out. Near the 300 Metres, STARWAY PATROL was steadied and shifted out in an endeavour to find running. About 100 Metres out, CAPE OF GOOD HOPE was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between STARWAY PATROL and ALL THE BEST. Then in the run to the winning post, CAPE OF GOOD HOPE was held up behind STARWAY PATROL and as a consequence the horse was not ridden out to the finish. CHUTZPAH was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said it was noted CHUTZPAH was making an unusual respiratory noise. He said this matter had previously been reported on 16 December 2001. An endoscopic examination today revealed a slight paralysis of the larynx and some blood and mucus in the windpipe.
