Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, W C Marwing, the rider of FLYING KNIGHT, reported to the Veterinary Surgeon that in his opinion the horse was lame behind. The Veterinary Surgeon had FLYING KNIGHT trotted up and was of the opinion the horse was lame in its near hind leg. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FLYING KNIGHT. Before FLYING KNIGHT can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. GLOBAL RUNNER was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room by GOLD FLASK which shifted in. CHEVAL D'OR was slow to begin. At the 800 Metres, KEY LARGO became unbalanced and brushed the running rail. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, GRACE AND GLORY hung out. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by B Marcus, the rider of HAPPY ECLIPSE, which finished 2nd, against HEAVENLY WIND (O Doleuze) being declared the winner of the race. B Marcus had alleged interference to his mount over the final 200 Metres. The Stewards considered that whilst HEAVENLY WIND, which was hanging, shifted out gradually after the 200 Metres, HAPPY ECLIPSE shifted out away from HEAVENLY WIND. The Stewards were of the opinion HAPPY ECLIPSE would not have finished in front of HEAVENLY WIND had the slight inconvenience not occurred. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed.
