Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the course, Mr D Cruz, trainer of MISSION POSSIBLE, had the hind feet of the horse checked by the farrier. The farrier reported he was unable to find any abnormalities. After arriving at the Start, MISSION POSSIBLE was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who could find no abnormalities and after the necessary consultation decided the horse was suitable to race. MISSION POSSIBLE was slowly away. REPUTATION, which had drawn on the outside, was ridden along to go forward and get in, was unable to do so, was obliged to race wide throughout and was not able to find any cover. About the 1200 Metres, WIN IT ALL was steadied to avoid the heels of LUCKY SUPREME (W M Lai) which shifted in when not quite clear. W M Lai was reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care. About the 800 Metres, WIN IT ALL was momentarily awkward on the heels of LUCKY SUPREME. Rounding the Home Turn, WIN IT ALL raced tight between CHIEF'S FORTUNE and LUCKY SURPEME. Just on straightening, MISSION POSSIBLE and NATURE'S TREASURE bumped. In the Straight, CHIEF'S FORTUNE hung in. When questioned, E Saint-Martin (CHUK WAY) said he had viewed the videos of the horse's runs yesterday at the home of Trainer T W Leung and it was pointed out to him CHUK WAY is a very lazy type of horse and if not ridden along would drop out. E Saint-Martin said because of the rail position and the rain, he considered it was advisable to take up a more forward position than normal with CHUK WAY today. He said the horse left the gates well, in the early stages he was able to take up a box seat position behind SUPER ELITE, in that position CHUK WAY travelled comfortably. Mr T W Leung, trainer of CHUK WAY, pointed out because of the rail position and the weather conditions, he had not given E Saint-Martin any specific instructions, but confirmed he had discussed with him the racing characteristics of CHUK WAY. In the circumstances of today's race, bearing in mind the lack of pace, he was not surprised to see CHUK WAY took up a position towards the front. The explanations submitted by E Saint-Martin and Mr Leung were accepted. R Fradd (RAINBOW SEEKER) said the last time he had ridden the horse in a race it had travelled well, however, today at no stage was RAINBOW SEEKER travelling as he thought it should and he was aware at the 1000 Metres the horse was well beaten. RAINBOW SEEKER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said the horse in his opinion was showing signs of a heart irregularity. Before RAINBOW SEEKER can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must pass an official veterinary examination.
