Racing Incident Report
VIGOROSO left the gates awkwardly with its head up, shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of GLORIOUS WINNER. In the early stages, PRETTY BABY had a tendency to hang in. About the 700 Metres, SPOT ON and WINWIN COMBINATION brushed. About 100 Metres out, H K Yim (GRACE AND GLORY) dropped his whip. When questioned regarding the improved performance of LANDLORD tonight when compared with its recent runs, Mr A T Millard, trainer, said if without some improvement of LANDLORD tonight, his intention was to recommend that the horse be retired. He said he has not had the horse for very long and after its disappointing run on Saturday, he thought the horse might have got its tongue over the bit and sought permission to race it in tongue tie tonight. Mr Millard said this was almost the last resort. He said in the horse's last two runs it has been ridden by Apprentice M W Leung who has been directed to ride the horse somewhere in the first half of the field if possible. Mr Millard said he was surprised when approached by R Fradd for the ride tonight. He did however go on to say since he has had the horse Jockey Fradd has ridden it in the trial over 1600 Metres, on that day the horse was successful after being ridden in midfield. Mr Millard went on to say the manner in which the horse found the line tonight surprised him as he did anticipate it would probably stop. Apprentice Leung was questioned and he confirmed in the horse's last two runs he had been directed by the trainer to ride the horse somewhere about 4th or 5th position. He said on Saturday the horse left the gates with its head in the air, just after the start was rather severely checked and got well out of its ground. After this he was of the view LANDLORD was reluctant to improve amongst other runners. Apprentice Leung said when he saw the entries for tonight's race he phoned Mr Millard's assistant trainer endeavouring to secure the ride, but was unsuccessful. Mr Millard was advised the evidence he had submitted on this occasion was being recorded and the Stewards would contact him if it was decided to proceed further with the matter.
