Racing Incident Report
On jumping, HONEST STEED was crowded for room between SEA DRAGON PEARL which got its head up and shifted in and FLIGHT OF FANCY which shifted out slightly. H K Yim (SOUND GALLOP) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The careless riding being that about the 800 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of FLIGHT OF FANCY. As a consequence of this, FLIGHT OF FANCY was crowded onto CASH which lost its running and was checked. EXPRESS LOT, which was following CASH, was checked as a consequence. HONEST STEED, which was following EXPRESS LOT, was checked severely and shifted out abruptly across the heels of EXCEPTIONAL. When HONEST STEED shifted ground, inconvenience was caused to BRILLIANT LEADER which was obliged to race wider. After considering all the circumstances of this matter, the Stewards were of the view the appropriate penalty was for H K Yim to be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 22 October 2001 on which day he may resume race racing (4 Hong Kong race days). The suspension is to take immediate effect. In the run to the winning post, HAIL WINNER had a tendency to hang out. When questioned, W C Marwing (HAIL WINNER) explained he had been instructed by the trainer from an outside gate to go forward if possible and take up a position near the lead. Mr K L Man, trainer of HAIL WINNER, explained the horse at its previous start was having its first start for him and ran over a shorter trip, he had asked that the horse be ridden quietly, but on that occasion he was of the view the horse got further back than planned and today over more ground he instructed his rider to take up a forward position which had proved to be successful with this horse in the past. Mr Man did go on to say in similar races to this in future it is to be hoped that HAIL WINNER will be ridden in a forward position. When HAIL WINNER ran on 15 September 2001, it was reported that on jumping the horse threw its head about and was further inconvenienced when another runner shifted ground abruptly. EXCEPTIONAL was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
