Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the Start, I WIN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said the horse was lame in its near side front leg and in his opinion not suitable to race. Accordingly I WIN was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before racing again, I WIN will be required to pass an official veterinary examination and must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Just after the winning post the first time, WINNING LUCK was steadied to avoid the heels of BOLD VICTORY (H K Yim) which shifted in when not clear. When WINNING LUCK was steadied, EMPIRE COURT and METRO TRAVELLER which were following were hampered in consequence. H K Yim was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise far more care when shifting ground. At the conclusion of the inquiry, W M Lai (WINNING LUCK) was told he will be required to provide more straightforward evidence. About the 1200 Metres, BOLD VICTORY got its head up and ran off. As a consequence of this, considerable inconvenience was caused to MILLENNIUM LEGEND which was obliged to race much wider for some time. Before racing again, BOLD VICTORY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. Mr K C Lo, trainer of BOLD VICTORY, was told the manner in which BOLD VICTORY is regularly running off in its races is causing concern and if the horse performs similarly again, it may be necessary for the Stewards to suspend it from racing. When questioned, R Fradd (METRO TRAVELLER) said after being boxed the horse stood well but with its head turned slightly to the near side. He said he did endeavour to appeal to the Starter to wait, but when the gates opened METRO TRAVELLER was slow out and got further back in the race than expected. R Fradd said had the horse jumped with the field it was the intention to ride somewhere just behind the leaders. BOLD VICTORY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that BOLD VICTORY had sustained a laceration to the fetlock joint of its off side hind leg.
