Racing Incident Report
CITY COMMANDER jumped awkwardly with its head up and was further inconvenienced when PLATINUM EXPRESS on jumping shifted out abruptly and PLEASANT WIN shifted in. On jumping, NAZAKAT II was checked when tightened between TRY YOUR BEST and WINNING STAR which shifted in abruptly. Just after the start, WINNING STAR, HOI POLLOI an GREEN CHARM were crowded for room between TEAM TONIC and TRY YOUR BEST which got its head on the side and momentarily shifted out. When questioned, Apprentice Y T Cheng (GREEN CHARM) explained he had been instructed by the Trainer to try and ride the horse on the inside as it was established that at its last run GREEN CHARM finished off strongly when ridden this way. He said running to the Home Turn he was travelling to the outside of WINNING STAR and did anticipate that the horse would shift out and as a consequence he steadied and shifted abruptly in across its heels to try and find running through the field in accordance with the instructions he had been given. He went on to say however GREEN CHARM over the concluding stages was very disappointing. The explanations submitted by Apprentice Y T Cheng were considered reasonable and accepted. W Woods (PLEASANT WIN) said the horse travelled satisfactorily to the Home Turn between TEAM TONIC and PLATINUM EXPRESS. He said on the Home Turn S King (PLATINUM EXPRESS) had been calling for room and also at this stage PLEASANT WIN was starting to give ground, he felt in the circumstances he was obliged to edge out and as a consequence of this PLATINUM EXPRESS found running to his inside. The explanations submitted were accepted. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said PLEASANT WIN was lame in its off side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, the horse will be required to pass an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When asked about the disappointing performance of MAGIC WIN, E Saint-Martin said he had not been riding the horse on the track, but it was expected MAGIC WIN would run well today. He said he had been instructed from a good gate to lead and endeavour to control the race. He said MAGIC WIN jumped only satisfactorily, he was not able to lead as instructed and took up a position on the outside of SUPER STAR and travelled comfortably in that spot until approaching the Home Turn when SUPER STAR went ahead of him, he endeavoured to go with that horse, but MAGIC WIN was not able to do so, started to give ground badly and over the last 200 Metres he was concerned that there was something wrong with MAGIC WIN and did not ride the horse out as he normally would. MAGIC WIN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, MAGIC WIN was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said there was no apparent abnormality, but when subject to an endoscopic examination this revealed the horse had suffered quite severe internal bleeding and the horse in his opinion should not be deemed an official bleeder. In all the circumstances the Stewards believe before MAGIC WIN can race again, it should perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
